The city of Norfolk had a population of 245,190 in 2017 and experienced changes in crime rates such as murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson.  Norfolk, VA experienced a 20% drop in violent crime with a 25% decrease in robbery, and a 47% decrease in burglary in 2018.

 

The city of Virginia Beach had a population of 454,353 in 2017 and experienced changes in crime rates such as murder, rape, robbery, aggravated assault, property crime, burglary, larceny, motor vehicle theft, and arson.  Virginia Beach, VA saw a 73% decrease in the murder rate, a 44% decrease in reported rape, and a 24% increase in motor vehicle theft in 2018.
